Mark Lee began studying the violin at age 5 with Myonhae Yoon, and currently studies with Professor Philippe Djokic at Dalhousie University, where he is working toward a Bachelors degree in Violin Performance. He also has played piano since the age of 12, studying first with Rafael Alcolado and presently with Professor Peter Allen also at Dalhousie University. He holds both piano and violin ARCT Performance diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, as well as diplomas in Music Theory.
Mark has been involved for many years with competitions including the Kiwanis Music Festival, Canadian Music Competition. He received RCM silver medals for highest exam grade in the Maritime provinces in 1998 and 2001, the NSRMTA Scholarship Competition grand prize in 1999, an award from the NSRMTA Halifax Chapter in 2002, the Georg Tintner Scholarship in 2008, and won the String Music Atlantic Rose Bowl Competition in 2009. In 2006, Mark won the NSYO Concerto Competition and performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the NSYO on tour in November of 2006.
Mark also enjoys playing orchestral music, having been involved with the NSYO for many years, and currently performs with the Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony Nova Scotia as an apprentice. He performs chamber music with his quartet at Dalhousie University and has collaborated with professionals both from Dalhousie University and Symphony Nova Scotia. He is in his fourth and last year at Dalhousie and hopes to continue his musical career in Europe.
